So I love I love new metal. So well, thank you so much for uh you guys making time to do this for me. Um, so I'll just jump right into the questions. Um, I don't I don't know if you've seen anything. I know your wife's on. I have not on the box. No, that listen, I'm I I only have like four episodes out. So I'm like, it's totally fine if you haven't seen anything yet. But your wife has. Yeah. So I kind of just asked like the most random, sometimes unhinged questions. So are you ready for this? Okay. All right. Well, this one will be easy. What is a band that got you into heavy music?

Um, I mean, like the first, like the first band would probably be Lincoln Park, but that's like, I guess, like so that's that's new metal.

So I would say when you're comparing it to like pop music, it would be considered.

Yeah, because like the first time I heard Chester scream, I think probably Did it pierce your soul?

I was like, I was like, what is that? And then like I need to and I kind of got into more stuff and like corn, do out corn and slip knot came like pretty quickly after that. And like I've been new metal like from the get-go. Really? From yeah, I mean, like, I mean, from like I don't know, 12, 13, when you start figuring out what kind of music you like. It that I that was something I always kind of kept coming back to. I just I I there's something about a good, like, a good bounce in the mosh pit. Gets you good, gets gets gets me going.

And that's why that's why I kind of enjoy like what we bring, is because like it's like, yeah, sometimes some of our mosh pits get a little serious, but like we really just want you to like we want you to move. Like we want you to move. We don't want people to see hoarding with their phone. 100%. Like, and and that's something I think me and most of the band pride ourselves on is our life, our live performance. Um just because like we have a ton of energy and like we we we like we like making we like making people dance and have a good time, and like I've I've always kind of we all have a love for a lot of other music than metal.

Um we all like to dance, we all like to sing, we all like to have a good time. And it was just like what kept coming out of me was heavy, and what kept coming out of our front man was like kind of a rap. So we were like, yo, it's gonna be new metal, and so for me it was just kind of full circle.

Like we have uh we have a lot of wrestling references in our music and like in and even in my my live performances, me and the front man, or me and I'm sorry, me and my bassist do like a spot that we kind of like tribute to to Triple H. I went to the last one that was in Tampa over during COVID. So it kind of sucked, but yeah. I mean, as far as like the fans and having to be so spaced out and just not part of the you know, COVID ruined everything. But anyway, all right. So what is like the smallest or weirdest place that you've you've performed?

Either the last show that we just played, which was a very small place up in Athens called uh uh Red Stripe.

Um it's not the weirdest though, but it's definitely, I think, the last either the you know what? It wasn't Grumpy's. It was either the house, which was literally a house, it was a front, it would be we we played in a living room, um, and it was a wild little crowd, or red stripe, which was last last week, which was mostly just uh an excuse to get the boys in a van and figure out if we all work good on a road trip.

Yeah, well, I mean we've never we've never done a full tour.

We didn't know what we were gonna get, and then we pulled up and they were like, they're in the back, pick it, pick one, the keys are in the the keys are in there. There was like six Mercedes lined up, and I'm like, let's go shopping. So we got like a um a pretty big, pretty like 2500, like extended cat like extended on the back. It was a big job.

Uh it was literally just a one-night, it was literally just a one-night jog.

And so it's like still some of us are like dipping our toe in the water and making sure everything makes sense. Yeah, it wasn't really about like making sure I didn't hate them, but like you know what I mean.

And I really from I'm from here. I'm from I'm from Clearwater. Oh, born and raised my whole life.

So I am obsessed with boiled peanuts, and they are really great for when you're on the road. Yeah, so when I'm driving like across country or just extended like you know, trips around, I really want to find like road stands. And one day I could not find boiled peanuts, and I made it all the way to Tennessee, and I was like, How are you guys considered the South? And nobody has boiled peanuts. That is crazy. Not even like the gas station.

And I went to a gas station and asked, Yeah, and I went to the gas station and was like, Do you guys have boiled peanuts? And the girl was like, What's that? And I was like, I What do you mean? So I delayed my trip by like two hours, my arrival time, by two hours because I was searching for boiled peanuts.

Growing up in Florida, just we've had a few hurricanes come through, some category. A few? Oh yeah. A few within like 2000, you know, six.

From the beginning. I did not discover them until 2010. They opened uh for Disturbed, and I'd never heard of them before. And as soon as they came out, I was like, what? I think this was a nightmare album. Oh, yeah. And then I was an instant fan until sadly their their last album was weird.

Are you? Oh my gosh. I I yeah, okay, I don't want to say any bad things because I do love them. I that album just was not for me, but I won't hate on it. It wasn't for a lot of people, but it you know, it was just a little, and then I actually saw them, and then it was it got really weird on stage because they're just like they like left and like never actually ended the show, and everybody's like, what's going on? I was like, Oh, they're not coming back. It was kind of weird, but maybe that was their their gimmick for that album. I don't know. All right, so what is the smallest or weirdest place you've ever performed?

Smallest or weirdest? Yeah. Um maybe smallest would be a couple house shows. One of them was in a garage, but it was a very small, like concrete garage where you just played in a garage and then but that like the crowd was outside in the driveway.

Uh I was in my experiences. For this band, the smallest place that we've ever played at was uh at uh the house, and that was like a hardcore venue at somebody's house in the living room. And there's people just getting sent left and right everywhere. It was what it was a fun time.

I honestly I would say recently it's been um not just because like the movie just came out, but the backrooms, like the concept of the backrooms, like we were just talking about psychological horrors. So the backrooms movie just came out, it's it's a uh it's a concept of no clipping out of reality. So like imagine you're just walking and then you just like fall through the floor and now you're just in a yellow office building. Oh, that sounds awful, exactly, and it's endless, and you don't know how to get out. And so you're obsessed with figuring out how to get out of it, just the concept of it, and they made it there's a bunch of videos on YouTube, and they made this whole like analog horror type of thing about it. So I love telling people about it and being like, you need to watch this because it's it's spooky in a good way.

I feel like in in most music, people don't hear the individual parts and they only care about lead and simple things. People aren't trying to be musicians, so they're not listening for things that really hit, but you know you're like a dorky geeky musician when you like bass. And okay, when you appreciate that it's just even when it's low and simple, it's everything.

Because usually I can get you within an hour, at least okay at most songs you'll want to play. Really? That's the beauty of bass, is it doesn't need to be difficult. We're a single note instrument most of the time. Oh where did where did music originate from? It's guttural, it's just thump thump thump on a log. Yeah. Bass and drums, rhythm section is primitive. Everybody understands it. Once you get into it, as long as you've ever heard music in your life and have any rhythm, it flows through you just like the you know, language of the universe. That's how we communicate in noise.

And I've been going on Headbanger's Boat every year, and I have nothing to show for it. So, five minutes a day, start that YouTube channel so I can start learning. Okay, so what band got you into heavy music?

Oh, um, a lot. Like, I was raised with a lot of heavy music from kind of all fronts, so it's hard to say because I think what first got me really interested in music was kind of around Gringer, like Allison Shane's Sound Guard and stuff, but I don't know if that's considered heavy. So I would say maybe Death Tones.

I feel like back then that was considered heavy versus like what we have today. Like I don't was like Death Court even like a genre back then. Oh my god. Like my I have an obsession with boiled peanuts. And when I'm on the road, I am I will go out of I will go an hour out of my way to find boiled peanuts. Yeah, they get harder to find the further north you get. And then once you really once you hit the Georgia, the Tennessee-Georgia state line, you basically can't find them anywhere except for the canned ones at Walmart.

And when you play in 15 different stringed instruments, you know, I love a Chinese Guzang, and everyone I everyone likes scoffs when I say that. Like, Jesus, man.

So when you hit like 70, yeah, it starts really swaying and it's just not safe. Yeah. And then when and then when you have to like slam on brakes, because there's always somebody who wants to just be like, I don't want to drive behind a van. So they go in front of me, cut me off, and then I'm slamming on brakes, and all I can hear is everything back here just like moving. And I'm just like, oh please, I hope nothing breaks. Oh yeah, that that's the story of being in in this van.

So how do you deal with it? Do you have like some kind of counterbalance or padding to do it? Because I've always tried to convince my wife to do this.

No, I just I build things with like compartments and stuff, so it helps keep you know, compress it into smaller spaces. Yeah, like these cabinets up here for like my clothing storage. So I have like um they're empty right now because I just got back from overseas, but like I have storage bins and stuff, right? So that that keeps it from everything like flying out and all that stuff, and so yeah, I mean I've definitely broken some things during the build from having to slam on brakes. It's not fun.

Yeah, I built the whole van myself. Yeah, it's not done yet, but it's it's you know, one day if I stay home long enough.

No, it's just it's follow us on all the socials and all the things. We're pretty much streaming everywhere. Uh, we have a lot of like it's it's weird that we try to. It feels like we have so little going on because we're just kind of really getting rolling, but yeah, it feels like we have like years of stuff just about to flow out of us.

I only put my sunglasses on one time. I am back after editing volume six with category three. There is so much fun to talk to and hang out with in the van. Unfortunately, again, I this is like starting to be like a recurring theme that I'm really working hard to uh to fix. Is I didn't get to see them because I started interviewing a second band because we got started late. You know, people have jobs and stuff, so totally understand. But I think going forward, I probably can only interview one band if the interviews are gonna start at like past a certain time, because then I just don't have enough time to actually see the band that I interviewed, which is like a whole point of this whole series is that I enjoy going to shows and experiencing bands, especially ones that I've never heard of and become a fan. Um, but from what I could hear and inside, they sounded great, and I'm upset that I didn't get to see it, but I will definitely catch them at their next show next time our schedules align. Um, but thank you guys again so much. Purple, after the interview and uh finding out that purple would have filled up my van with peppers, he actually sells um his hot sauce at the at his shows. So if you guys are ever at a show, grab the hot sauce. They gifted this to me, and as you can see, I've already been using it. Um, I know I think there's like mango in here, and I don't know which pepper it was that he used, but it was really spicy. It was so spicy, um, I I cannot handle it um on its own. But what I did, I got creative because Tara does not waste food or anything. So I got creative and I actually added it to um some vegan sour cream. So vegan sour cream with about three tablespoons correction. That's three teaspoons. Three tablespoons would have absolutely had my mouth on fire of the hot sauce, and I put it on some potatoes that I have in the van with me. So it's been really good, and obviously, every time I enjoy my spicy sour cream, I think about category three. So thank you guys so much again.
